Feb 22 - Dover Loop

Feb 22 - Dover Loop

2014. February 22.

The hot springs was a big surprise in that instead of a natural water hle, it was a swimming pool fed by the creek which took all the fun out of it. And it was cold, not the 28 it was supposed to be, plus the showers weren't working so they were cold too.
Fish farms, beautiful bays and houses right on the water are all around the peninsula. They'd be worth millions if they were in Melbourne or Sydney on the water.

Feb 20 - Cockle Creek

Feb 20 - Cockle Creek

2014. February 20.

You really feel as if you're at the end of the world with the wind, mist and vast ocean in front of you.
Free camped for a few days in an open area with our own white sandy beach and the sound of the waves crashing on the sand, very soothing.
The 2 hour walk to the 'end' took in few features but the spectacular moods of the mountains were worth it on their own.
Rained most of the time so read, relaxed and watched movies.

6 to 16 with strong winds, dark clouds and rain.

Feb 15 - Hartz Lakes

Feb 15 - Hartz Lakes

2014. February 15.

3 years ago today we set out on this adventure not thinking it would take this long and there's much more to do.

Mt Hartz area had a couple of jaw dropping walks through wetlands and as it was misty rain, it created some beautiful phot opportunities. It was a fairy land of nature.

The photos tell the story.
The walks ranged from 2 to 6 kms.

Feb 12 - Tahune Area

Feb 12 - Tahune Area

2014. February 13.

The walks at the Tahune forestry were privately run and therefore 26 each to walk them, so we didn't. We did do the hang gliding drop across the river whch was a real hoot. Denise was game enough to try it and squealed in delight all the way down at 40 kmh.
Franklin's only claim to fame was a shed demonstrating the old art of wooden boat building. Met an old guy selling e-cigs and ended up buying one to try it. Not bad, no burning, no nicotine (optional) and no cig smell.
Nearby, an area that was forested still had some ld machinery that ran on 6 foot wide gauge log rails.

Feb 11 - Richmond

Feb 11 - Richmond

2014. February 17.

Richmond town was 'historic' in that there were a few good quality old buildings and the oldest bridge in tassie.

The bays around the place were magnificent and particularly O'possum Bay that had houses right on the sandy beach with a bay looking across to Mt Wellington. Some land and a smal house were for sale there, very tempting for the prices, but it's a long way from anywhere which could be good or bad.

Feb 07 - MONA - Museum of Old and New Art

Feb 07 - MONA - Museum of Old and New Art

2014. February 07.

The Museum of Old and New Art, MONA,was an eye opener and an assault on the senses, literally. One display was a reproduction of the digestive system with all its smells and poo at the end of the process. We gagged and couldn't stay in the area long at all.
The exhibitions ranged from the ancient to the wacky, weird and wonderful. The pictures tell the story.
You go down 4 stories underground and then through a labrynth of halls to see it all - massive.
The audio pod and headphones give descriptions including basic and high brow with most descriptions having a lend of society and the world of art.
For $15 it was the best bargain anyone can have and you can't see it all in one day.
Didn't think you could take photos inside (you can) so just took the phone, hence just satisfactory shots.

Feb 07 - Hobart

Feb 07 - Hobart

2014. February 09.

Hobart was surprisingly huge and fast paced. Beautiful buildings, great shorefront, markets, food and friendly people.
Mt Wellington overshadows the place, very rugged and windy.
Got caught in the 130 kph blast but got through it unscathed unlike most others in teh van park who lost awnings and even their vans.
The art gallery MONA (next album) was jaw dropping and a must see.
